The mishap occurred at about 9:30 p. m. on east Seventh street between Main and Commerical. Driver of the car was Wayne Henderson, former Oregon Side resident and former Weiser high school student. Mr. Brown who was a member of the Advent Christian church was returning to his home at 604 East Commercial following religious services. He was cutting across East Seventh street when the Henderson car appeared. The young marine told investigating officers that he saw the elderly man when he was about 30 feet away. He said he was traveling at only 20-25 miles per hour and swerved to the extreme left of the highway in an attempt to miss the pedestrian. Investigating officers said that as Mr. Brown was struck he was thrown up against the sun visor over the windshield. He was rushed to Memorial hospital but failed to regain consciousness. Mr. Brown who was a retired farmer had lived in this area for approximately 51 years. He homesteaded in Mann creek from 1906-1936. Later, he retired and made his home in Weiser. Survivors are one son, Paul S. Brown, of Washougal, Wash.; one daughter, Maude E. Attebery, with whom he was living at the time of his death; two sisters, Mrs. Vina Fox, of Camas, Wash., and Mrs. Bertha Parrish of Ocean Lake, Ore. He also has six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a. m. at the Advent Christian church with the Rev. F. O. Sapp officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest cemetery.
