Johnson, who went to the Washington major league team directly from Weiser, was not only noted for his exceedingly fast ball; his many years as a big time pitcher and the records he hung up, but also for the high type of sportsmanship he displayed through it all. It has been said many times that Johnson thru his fine sportmanship had done more to popularize baseball than any other player of his time. He pitched for Weiser about 1907 or 1908 and a number of the older residents here remember seeing him play. (Walter P. Johnson is buried next to his wife at Rockville Union cemetery in Rockville, Montgomery, Maryland.)
