M. Ernest Layton, an old resident of this valley and a prosperous farmer, passed from us on Tuesday of this week. Several weeks ago he, together with all his children, were taken with the measles, and Ernest, thinking he had had them when a child, did not think of himself in his anxiety to care for the children, and they in consequence went harder with him. He, however, had sufficiently recovered from them to be able to be up, when he was taken with an attack of asthma, and in his weakened condition he was not able to withstand it. Funeral will take place at 2 P. M. Friday, at the Salubria Baptist church. Interment will be in the Salubria cemetery. Funeral will be conducted under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Cambridge, of which he was a member. He leaves a wife and eight children. Ernest was one of those thoroughly good citizens whom everybody liked and respected. He had been engaged in farming here for the past fifteen or more years, and has been successful, having accumulated a reasonable amount of this world's goods. He has lived upon and operated the farm of his father-in-law ever since his marriage to Mr. Colson's daughter. The bereaved family has the sympathy of this community in the deep and unexpected sorrow.
