H. PHILLIPS AND MRS. F. M. SMITH ANSWER CALL Both Were Old Residents Here and Both Were Well Known and Highly Respected, Masons go to Weiser to Funeral of Mr. Phillips Word was received in Cambridge Tuesday morning that two old timers had passed on to the mysterious beyond: Mr. Phillips and Grandma Smith both answered the call. J. H. Phillips Mr. Phillips had lived in this country for many years. He homesteaded and carved out a farm on Pine creek a short distance from town. Here he lived and raised his family. After the children were all grown and he had reached that age where he could no longer handle the farm alone he rented the place and moved to Weiser, where he spent the last few years of his life in quietude and rest. Everybody knew and liked Mr. Phillips. He and his good wife were hospitable and kind to neighbors and friends and visitors were always welcomed with that heartiness which one knew was real. He was buried Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of the Masonic order, of which he was a member. Several of the members of the Cambridge lodge went down to assist in the last rites. Mrs. F. M. Smith A few days ago the children of Mrs. Smith were notified that their mother had a second stroke of paralysis and they hastened to her bedside. She passed away Monday, Feb. 25 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Sweeney, at Emmett. She died in exactly the same manner her husband did nearly eight years ago. She was resting on a lounge and when attempting to rise fell over in a stroke of paralysis. The body was brought to Salubria Wednesday and funeral services will take place at 1 p. m. today. She will be laid to rest in the Salubria cemetery beside her husband. She was 82 years, 11 months and 29 days old. She leaves three sons and two daughters. The sons are Marian, Ross and Charley. The daughters are Mrs. Sheffield and Mrs. Sweeney. While not very well known to most of the people in this section at present, she was one of the old settlers and was a friend to all those who knew her.
