While the parents were interested in watching the game, a number of children wandered down to the railroad turntable and were having a good time, some riding while the others pushed the turn table around. While little Joe was riding he in some way got out to the end of the table in such a manner that when it came around even with the track it caught him between the rails, crushing him so badly that there was no possible hope for his recovery. He was carried to the home of Wm. Eckles and everything possible was done for him. Dr. Greene and Loder were sent for, but nothing could be done except to stand by and watch the ebbing of his young life. The accident happened at about 5:30 p. m. and at 8 o'clock he breathed the last. The little fellow was conscious all the while, but seemed so stunned by the shock that he did not suffer much pain. The funeral took place from the residence of Wm. Eckles in Cambridge, a large number of teams following the remains to the Baptist church in Salubria, where Mrs. Dr. Over preached a very pathetic and appropriate sermon, the procession then proceeded to the cemetery where the last sad rites were performed, and the sorrowing parents returned to their home. On all sides were heard expressions of sympathy and condolence for the bereaved parents in their time of sorrow. Joe York was 5 years old, a bright boy and the pride and idol of his parents. His sudden death caused a gloom over the entire town.
