M. Young, who for the past twelve years has been a resident of Washington county, died at the home of his son Robert, Sunday evening. He had been a sufferer for several months from dropsy so his death was not unexpected. Mr. Young was born in Illinois in the year 1839 and at the age of 8 years he moved with his parents to Arkansas. On Aug. 26, 1865 he married Mrs. Susan Caroline Whiteley and to them were born six children, three of which are living. Mr. Young served on the Southern side during the Civil war under Gen. Price until wounded in the Elkorn battle. In 1885 he moved to eastern Oregon and twelve years ago he came to Washington county. Mr. Young was a man with a quiet disposition but always interested in all things that pertained to the welfare of the people. He leaves to mourn his demise two sons, Robert and O'Connor of Council, one stepson Chas. Whiteley and one daughter, Mrs. Etta Olson of Weiser. The remains were taken to Weiser Monday and he was laid to rest in the Weiser cemetery by the side of his wife who died in Oct. 1906.
