All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/il/ilfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Gary Wood garyw62@att.net January 27, 2010, 7:07 am Alton Telegraph (Illinois) May 13, 1864 We learn from a dispatch from Cairo of the 9th inst.that on Saturday night last a quantity of goods shipped from the house of ____ Homer, Rex & Tracey, according to invoices was seized by Gallatin Wood at Goose Island, seventeen miles above Cairo, and their claiments are named; J Starr, and another, name unknown, were arrested, charged with smuggling articles contrband of war. Upon examination it found that the boxes and packages contained one hundred and five revolvers, sixty thousand percussion caps, a large quantity of powder, some dress goods, one gray military cloth cap, and an assortment of gray woollen goods, used by rebel officers in making uniforms in all over five thosand dollars.
