Mary E. Birge was born near Marine, Madison County, Illinois, August 14, 
1830.  Her Maiden name being Mary E. Mundis.  She was married to Cyrus Birge, 
Decmeber 26, 1850.  Three daughters and one son survive her Viz: Anna Birge of 
Pittsburg, Kansas, Mamie and Lucy at home and Charles C. Birge of Chetopa, 
Kansas. She was a long resident of this city, she removed with her family to 
Chetopa, kansas in 1888.  She died December 5, 1893.  Her remains were brought 
to Greenville and rest beside those of her husband.  the deceased's husband 
was a soldier in the late war, serving in Co D 3rd Ill Cav.  burial was at 
Hazel Dell.
