Mrs Burkhardt was born in Switzerland on November 15, 1841, being the second child of a family of four children. When he was 14 years of age he came to the United States with his sister, who was the late Mrs. John Baumberger and later came to Greenville. He remainded there until he was 19 years of age and at that time he went to California in the gold rush. He remained there until 1865 when he returned to Greenville and later married Miss Augusta Simmons of near Sorento. He is survived by his wife, three sons, John H. of Denver, Colorado, Aurthur of Beardstown and Harlold who lives at home, four daughters, Ida W. of St. Louis, Lillie of Salem, Massachusetts, Cora S. finley, Ohio, and Freda at home. three children have preceded their father in death. Mr. Burkhardt was the last of his family. Burial was at the Sunny Side Cemetery.
