L. Curthis, 71, retired former coal miner of Sorento, died at St. Joseph's hospital, June 29, 1959. Mr. Curthis, son of Francis and Alice (Bilyeu) Curthis was born in Shoal Creek township December 6, 1887. He was married to Zillah Redding in Pocahontas, February 28, 1911 and she with six sons and three daughters survives. They are Olive E., Willard L., Jack D., and Carl D. and Mrs. True D. Halford, all of Sorento, charles M. of New Douglas, Chester V. of Edwardsville, Mrs. Lillie G. Wall and Mrs. Gloria Justice of Peoria. AA son Chalmer was killed in action in France in WWII. Also surviving are four brothers, Rufus V.,Elmer E., Martin A., Clifford U. and Mrs. Myrtle Overstreet, all of Sorento, 20 children and one great grandchild. A brother Fred lost his life in an automoblie accident on May 13.
