Mary Jane Marshall was born in Arkansas, Aug. 26, 1837. She married Dr. James Gordon in June 1860, four years later moving to Illinois where she spent the remainder of her life. To this union were born ten children, four dying in infancy. Dr. Matt Gordon her eldest son, died five years ago in Huey, Illniois. five children are left to mourn the loss of their mother, Mrs. Dr. Thompson of Huey, Illinois. Emma Gordon of Cleburn, Texas, Mrs. Leo Hoyer, Frank T. & James M. Gordon of St.Louis, besides three step-children, Mrs. Me. Wilson of this city, Dr. John Gordon of Pocahontas, Dr. Powell Gordon of Carlyle, Illinois. she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Johanna Kirkham of this city and Mrs. William Whittle of Castle Rock, Washington, also a brother of the same place. the remains were laid to rest in Montrose Cemetery.
