Mrs. Gordons's maiden name was Emily Elva Torrence, daughter of John and Jane Torrence of Gaston, North Carolina, where she was born Dec 11, 1844. she moved with her parents to Arkansas and on Dec 15, 1861, at Russellville, Arkansas married Dr. John H. Gordon. In June of 1864 they moved to Pocahontas, where they have since lived. She leaves her husband, three sons, Dr. Louis Gordon of Pocahontas, Dr. George Gordon of Pochanonta, Dr. W.E. Gordon of Old Ripley and one daughter, Mrs. Elva Harlan, wife of W.T.Harlan. she is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hardin of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Mrs. S. V. Ashe of McConnelsville, South Carolina. One son, Dr. C.C. Gordon died July 11 1906.
