He was baptized as Wilhelm Josef Graff but went by William Graff. William Graff's father Friedrich Graff was a wagon maker in St. Jacob, Illinois. After his father's death in 1895, William worked as a Farm Hand and Laborer for many different farms in Madison County, Illinois. William Graff never married. In the early 1930s, he and his brother Louis Graff made their home with a cousin Mamie Graff at her farm on Dudleyville Road in Bond County, Illinois. William and his brother Louis lived and worked as a Farm Laborers for their cousin Mamie Graff until her death in 1949. The two brothers then moved south of Greenville and continued to live together in their old age. William and his brother Louis made frequent visits St. Jacob, Illinois to visit their sister Ella Schiefer and extended family. William Graff passed away on January 20, 1952 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City, Illinois. William was buried in Smith Grove Cemetery in Greenville, Illinois following services held at Dewey & Son Chapel, the Rev. Leonard Todd officiated.
