He was born in Todd County, Kentucky son of Fielding Laws of North Carolina. Mr. Laws came to Bond County with his parents in 1830 and his school days were spent in the little log school house of pioneer times. He remained with his parents until 22 years of age, when he married in May 1848 Mary M. McCaslin, a native of Caldwell County, Kentuck and who came with her parents to Bond County when she was but three years of age. After thier marriage Mr. and Mrs. Lawas located on a section of land, where they spent the remainder of their life, starting in a very primitive way. he first built a log house 16x16 feet of round logs with no windows, pucheon floors, clapboard door and mud stick chimney. Although they started in this primtive way, by economy and hard work, they soon began to to gather around them the conviences and comforts of life. Three daughters and six sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Laws as follows: Sarah E., wife of John C. Mclean of Largrange township, Thomas C. Laws of Coffeen, Lucinda, wife of O. F. Lewey of Montgomery county, now deceased, Alfred Wilson of Donnellson, Fielding F., who died six years ago, Mary E., wife of Charles Linder of Anthony, Kansas, Charles L. and William H. and Albert P., both deceased. Mrs. Laws wife of the deceased died four years ago. Three brothers survives Mr. Laws, they are James of Vandalia, John of Coffeen, and Samuel of Greenville. W. J. Laws and Bert Mclean of this city are grandsons of the deceased. Burial was at Donnellson Cemetery.
