Had he lived until next November he would have been 90 years old. Newman Laws was born November 18, 1833 on the farm where he died, the son of Fielding and Elizabeth (Vaughn) Laws. He married in 1864 Miss Parmelia Pointer, who receded him in death about nine years ago. Two children were born to this union, Elizabeth Arnold, wife of C. E. Arnold of Litchfield, who has also passed away and Miss Rosa Laws who livedat home. He was the last of a family of nine children and was a brother to Sam Laws who died eight weeks ago. He survived by his daughter, Rosa and granddaughter Mrs. Roy Austin. Mr. Laws was a member of Co. F, 50th ill. Vol Inf. and served one year during the Civil War. Interment at Laws Cemetery.
