Mr. Mier was bron in Stetfeldt, Baden, Germany, November 16, 1842. His father died in the old country and when he was 18 years of age he came to this country with his mother and two sisters. They located at New Orleans and later in Highland, Illinois where they lived for five or six years and they then moved to Pocahonts. His mother died in Lexington, Missouri, 18 years ago. One sister, Mrs. Theresa Weibel, died at Lexington, Missouri, 18 years ago. The other sisters, who came across the water with them is Mrs. Wilhelmina Brown of Clinton, Missouri. Mr. Mier married Nettie Gilmore of Pocahontas at Baxter Springs, Kansas, June 2, 1872. The couple went immediately to Pocahontas and began housekeeping in the place where they lived the balance of thier lived together, over 45 years. Mr. Mier is survived by his wife and one son, Fred Mier. One daughter, Sadie Bell Mier died July 10, 1876 and one son, Frank Mier, A Greenville merchant, died in Greenville, July 16, 1911.
