Gustavus Swan Nay, died at his home in Smithboro, Jan. 24, 1915. Mr. Nay was born in Franklin county, Ohio, Feb. 25, 1838 son of Jeremiah and Mary Nay. Had he lived until his next birthday he would have seen 77 years of age. He married Miss Margaret J. Haughn of Franklin county, Ohio on June 16, 1859 in Columbus, Ohio. They moved to Bond county in 1866 and settled on a farm near Pleasant Mound township south of Smithboro, where they lived until nine years ago when they moved to Smithboro where they have since resided. Mr. Nay is survived by his wife, four sons and five daughters. Three sons died in infancy or childhood. The surviving children are, Frank Nay of Chicago, C.S. Nay of east St.Louis, Portor Nay of this city and Clifford of Smithboro, Mary Hudson, wife of T.P. Hudson of Vandalia, Ida Davis, wife of W.S. Davis of Greenville, Rosa Enloe, wife of Grant Enloe of Sugar City, Colorado, Daisy Cross, wife of Randolph Cross of Springfield and Lena Causey, wife of Charles Causey of near Smithboro. The three children who died were George Jeremiah, who died at the age of six, georgie who died at the age of one and Garfield, who died at the age of three months. Mr. Nay was the last of his Immediate family, a brother and sister died several years ago in Ohio.
