He came to America when a boy of 16 years and settled in Baltimore, Maryland. After moving to St. Louis in 1810 he came to Old Ripley, where he spent the greater part of is life, moving to Moline in October in 1912. He served in Co 3rd Ill. Volenteer Calvary during the Civil War. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. John Trout with whom he made his home, one son, Nick Nitzel one step-son, John Brown all of Moline and one sister Mrs. Margaret Lusk of Kansas City, Kansas. Interment was at Brown Cemetery near Old Ripley.
