R. S. Northcott, father of U.S. District Attorney W.A. Northcott, formerly of this city, died at his home in Clarksburg, West Virginia, January 21, 1906. Gen. Northcott was born in Rutherford County, Tennessee, Sept. 30, 1816 and was in his eighty eighth year at the time of his death. At the commencement of the Civil War he being a union man, let Tennessee and went to Clarksburg, W Va, where he founded the Clarksburg Telegram in the fall of 1861, which paper is still in exstance. Afew months after the going to West Virigina he was comminissioned as Lieutenant Colonel of the 12th regiment and served during in entire war, being nine months in Libby Prison. He was Brigadier General and after the war continued the publication of his newspaper. He leaves surviving him, his widow, Elizabeth Albin Northcott, his sons, Hon. W.A. Northcott of Springfield, Il, Hon. G. A. Northcott of Huntington, president of the West Virginia Senate; Hon. Elliott Northcott of Huntington, who is U.S. Attorney for that district; Robert H. Northcott of Akron, Colorado and daughter Mrs. Naomi Everett Of Huntington, W. VA.
