He was born February 19, 1869 in Jett Prairie, a son of James and Jane (Butler) Prater. He was married on April 7, 1859 to Miss Nannie. W. Jett and to them were born one child, Mrs. Ed Cornish of Mulberry Grove, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, now Mrs. Thomas Desart of Coffeen and by two brothers, Wesley and William Prater, also of near Coffeen, by one half- brother, Elmer Desart of Carlinville and by the following half-sisters, Miss Lulu Desart of Coffeen, Mrs. Lillie Michel and Mrs. Bertha Stout, both of Decatur. A half-brother, died about sixteen years ago. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
