Wafer, former sheriff of Bond County, died at his home at Albany, Oregon, January 13, 1915. He was a son of the late James Wafer, a pioneer settler and was born August 4, 1834 at the family home near Elm Point. He lived in Bond County until 30 years ago when he moved to Newton, Kansas. From Newton he moved to near Houston, Texas and then to Houston where he lived until his removal to Albany, Oregon several years ago. Mr. Wafer married Margaret White of Greenville in this city, many years ago. She was a sister of John White of Jerseyville and of Sprague White of Greenville. Mrs. Wafer survives with children, Edward of Albany, Oregon, Albert of Seattle, Washington and dMrs. Sarah Bouton of Webster, Texas. J.E. Wafer is the only surviving brother and Mrs. Thomas W. Hynes, the only sister. Brothers and sisters who have died are Thomas Wafer and Mrs. Calvin McLain of Elm Point, Mrs. N.W. McLain and Mrs. Williamson Plant of this city. Mr. Wafer was a corporal in the 22nd Ill. Infantry and was badly wounded in the battle of Lookout Mountain.
