Wightman who passed away in Upper Alton, May 13, 1901 had exceeded the allotted term of four score years by four years, 3 months and 7 days. His long and happy life pilgrimage began in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, February 6, 1817. On reaching his majority he joined the great procession westward and after tarrying awhile in Chester, Illinois he selected Greenville as his home. In April 1842 he was united in marriage with Almira Blanchard. The young couple settled upon a farm in this vicinity. Their union was blessed with five children, three of whom survive, Mrs. Josephine Scott of Smithboro, Annie and W. H. Wightman of Upper Alton. In July 1855 Mrs. Wightman, the wife and mother was called away by death. Dec 24,1857, Mr. Wightman again married, to Mrs. Josephine Merriam of Tremont, Illinois. In the sourse of suceeding years seven other chldren entered the happy home circle, of whom five survive the father, Mrs. Lucy Gibbs of Mclean, Illinois, Mrs. Mary Enloe of Smithboro, S.A. Wigtman of Upper Alton, Mrs. Jennie L. Clark of East Alton and Mrs. Ida May Reynolds of Madison. In addition to the widow and children there were 19 grandchildren, of whom 15 are living and one great-grandchild, Mildred Seiver of Pocahontas and a brother Henry of Lewell, Mass., 52 years of age. Interment was in Montrose Cemetery..
