Sterling, Illinois, Wednesday, November 11, 1959 Headline: Oil Flow Continues Steady; Many More Rigs Arrive Subhead: Install Two More Large Storage Tanks Near Davis Well Steady pumping of oil from the well on the William Davis farm in Buckhorn township has continued this week and operators installed two additional storage tanks last week. Two tanks were originally provided but would not afford sufficient capacity. The fine quality of oil being pumped from the first good well ever discovered in Brown county has continued steady this past week. Operators have placed the well under "control" and are limiting output to 19-22 barrels an hour in order to prolong its life. The area has been the scene again this week of hundreds of visitors. A steady stream of cars throughout the day Sunday was on the road as people motored to the farm, 13 miles southwest of Mt. Sterling. The two large tank trucks operated by the H. E. Tracey Trucking company have continued their around-the-clock schedule of hauling the oil to Kincaid, Ill., where it is dumped in pipe lines. The Ashland Oil company is purchasing the oil from the well. Interest, in oil prospects was gain intensified over the week end as another well, said by reliable sources as a producer of from 50 to 100 barrels a day, was brought in west of Kellerville. Mike Callahan of Pittsfield was driller of the well. Well drilling rigs were brought into the county in numbers over the week end and while some have already started drilling, others are being set. At last count, about nine different rigs are being set to go or have started. The first well started after the discovery of the Davis well, was that on the Robison farm, in the valley several hundred feet and directly west of the Davis well. Backers of this well are E. H. Hufnagel, Richard Moore and Jim Yakle. This well is being drilled by J. B. Bushnell who brought in the one on the Davis farm. Another well has been started on the Henry Bush farm, dicretly to the east of the Davis well. http://files.usgwarchives.net/il/brown/newspapers/oilflow1.txt
