Sterling, and former C. L. P. S. Company employee, was crushed to death while riding on the running board of a truck in St. Louis Friday afternoon. Mr. Craven lived but a short time after the accident. His mother, Mrs. Hannah Howard of this city, went to St. Louis to bring the body back to Mt. Sterling. The body was brought to Mt. Sterling Monday evening and taken to the Herbster undertaking parlors, where it remained until. Tuesday afternoon, and then was taken to St. Joseph’s church, where the funeral was held at 2 o’clock, Rev. Fr. O’Donoghue officiating, with burial in the Catholic cemetery. On Sunday, June14, Mr. Craven visited here while traveling through on a moving van enroute to St. Louis. He was employed as a driver of the Haverkamp Moving Company of St. Louis and left Mt. Sterling about two years ago. Besides his widow, who resides here, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Hannah Howard, also of this city, a brother, Henry of New Lennox, and three half- sisters. Mrs. O. P. Wright of Camp Point, Mrs. Joseph Monckton and Mrs. Ralph Buss of this city. The St. Louis, Mo., Globe-Democrat contained the following account of the fatal accident: Frank Craven, 42, 1415 Bremen avenue, died at 5:30 o’clock Friday afternoon at the City Hospital a short time after he had been crushed between a Belt Line car and the running board of a truck on which he was riding at Nineteenth and Madison streets. Craven, according to police, was riding on the right running board. The truck, which was driven by Ernest Wicks, 1907 Bremen avenue, was about to turn north at Nineteenth street when it swerved too near the car. Craven was taken to the City Hospital, where physicians said he had suffered a fractured skull, internal injuries and lacerations of the body. He died five minutes after being placed on the operating table. Roswell Bailey, 4115 Washington place, and E. L. Guile, 344 North Spring street, who were in charge of the car, were held to await the action of the Coroner.
