Mrs. Johanna Kunkle



After an illness of less than three weeks Mrs. Johanna Kunkle died at the home 

of her son Anthony Kunkle in Missouri township Monday April 13.



Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Catholic church of which Mrs. 

kunkle was a devout member, on the following Wednesday morning at ?? o’clock. 

Father O'Donoghue, saying the Mass. Interment was made in the Catholic 

Cemetery in this city.



Johanna Schott was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1847, and was married to 

Anthony Kunkle in Ohio in 1866 and the greater part of their life together was 

spent on an Illinois farm in Missouri township.



When the time to retire came they moved to Mt. Sterling and here Mr Kunkle 

died in 1907. Five years later the widow, preferring to no longer live alone, 

sold her home on West Union street and became a member of the Anthony Kunkle 

household. There she remained, thirteen years, until called into the Great 

beyond.



Mrs. Kunkle is survived by seven children, two others having died in infancy. 

The sons are Michael Anthony, Frank and George; the daughters are Mrs. Louise 

Ashbaker, Mrs. Florence Mayfield, Mrs. Clara Henrick, all of whom together 

with twenty-four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren live in Brown 

county.
