William A. McDannold, Native Of Mt. Sterling, Dies At Age 91



William A. McDannold was born August 25, 1870 near Mt. Sterling, the son of 

George and Nancy Woods McDannold and departed from this life Nov. 12, 1961 at 

the Passavant hospital in Jacksonville at the age of 91 years, two months and 

18 days.



He was united in marriage to Harriett Surratt Oct. 14, 1889. To this union ten 

children were born. His wife preceded him in death Sept. 7, 1947. Five 

children also have passed away, Hense, Jenny, George, Lora and Violet.



Surviving their father are Andy and James of Meredosia; Mrs. Sarah Smith of 

Rock Island; Howard of Quincy and Mrs. Grace Floyd of Jacksonville.



Also surviving are three brothers, Julius of Bluffs; Pete of Chapin and Ray of 

Meredosia; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Surratt and Mrs. Rena Lantz of 

Jacksonville and Mrs. Lola Crawford of Monrovia, Calif; thirty-four 

grandchildren; eighty-five great-grandchildren and twenty-two great-great 

grandchildren. One hundred and forty-six living descendants.



Bill, as he was known, was a resident of Mt. Sterling for a number of years, 

having lived on the Homer Vandeventer farm south of Mt. Sterling.
