Miller Held Monday Morning Joseph J. (Roscoe) Miller of Kirkland, Ill., former resident of Mt. Sterling, died at St. Luke’s hospital, Chicago, at 1:45 a.m. June 20. He has been a resident of Kirkland for the past 11 years. A son of Frank and Sarah Amerson Miller, he was born in Brown county March 26, 1896. He was a veteran of World War I, and a member of St. Joseph church. His wife the former Agnes Evans, who preceded him in death. Surviving are four step-children: James Evans, Massapequa, N.Y., Mrs. Anthony Kunkel, Kirkland, Ill., Mrs Earl Lenz, Onelda, Ill., and Mrs. Arthur Short, New York; two nieces and a nephew, Mrs. Everett Hunter, Mrs. William Brown and Robert Miller, all of Rock Island. Besides his wife and parents preceding him in death were a brother, Thomas; a nephew, Tom Jr., who was killed two years ago in Preston, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 9:00 a.m. Monday, June 23 at St. Joseph’s church, Rev. John Bretz officiating. Casketbearers were Louis Henrick, Michael Henrick, Grant Bates, Kenneth Ferguson, Paul Kunkel and Wayne Kunkel. Military rites at the City cemetery were conducted by American Legion Post 374, with burial under the direction of Rounds Funeral directors.
