Cahill, Westfield, was born February 17, 1858, in Westfield Township. His father, Daniel Cahill, was a native of County Kerry, Ireland. He came to America when quite young, landing in Quebec. From there he went to New York and then to New Orleans. After living in the South several years he came to Illinois, where he was married to Mary McDonald, who died here. She was the mother of the following children: Cornelius (deceased), James, Michael, Johanna and Mrs. Mary Fitzgerald. Daniel Cahill was married a second time, to Mrs. Bridget Manning (nee Sheely), a native of County Kerry, Ireland. She survived her husband and is the mother of four children, viz.: Mary and John Manning, the former deceased, and Ellen and Thomas J. Cahill, our subject. Daniel Cahill died June 27, 1878. He was a good citizen and farmer, and at the time of his death owned a farm of 160 acres. His son Thomas Cahill, a wide-awake young man, has a farm of 120 acres.
