CHARLES DOTY Charles Doty, 83, a veteran of the Civil war answered the final roll call, Monday, June 11. He passed away at his country home, half a mile east of Ohio, from the infirmities of old age. Charles Doty was born at Chaumont, NY., on April 18, 1840. He enlisted in the Union army on the 12th day of September in 1862 and served in the civil war until September in 1865, having passed unhurt through some of the hardest fought battles of the war. When he received his honorable discharge from the service, he settled near Ohio. He is survived by a widow, five daughters and a son. Funeral services were held from the late residence on Wednesday afternoon with the local post of the American Legion in charge. The funeral services at the residence were in charge of Rev. E.E. Plapp of Red Oak. The body was escorted to the Union cemetery by a firing squad and pall bearers picked from the ranks of the Ohio Post. At the cemetery full military honors were accorded the departed veteran, the customary three volleys being fired over the casket. http://files.usgwarchives.net/il/bureau/obits/doty.txt
