LOST IN THE FOG On Tuesday evening, shortly after five o’clock, John Welsh, of this city, William Lang, of Miles, and others, started for the Maquoketa River in Mr. Laing’s launch, the Bessie Laing, where the party, with the exception of Mr. Welsh, intended to go into camp for a few days. They landed at Savanna and although the fog was very thick at that time they did not apprehend any danger from it and continued on their way up river. A short distance above Savanna they became entirely lost, so dense was the fog, and cast their anchor until the blowing of the curfew whistle at Savanna, when they weighed anchor and allowed their boat to float downstream until they began to fear drifting against one of the piers of the bridge. Anchoring again they blew a fog horn and shouted until they attracted the attention of the Hon. George C. Heberling, and others, who shouted themselves hoarse to enable those on the launch to reach the shore, they being anchored about half way between here and Savanna. The party landed at the place they started from at 10 o’clock, being out in the fog nearly five hours.
