She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Zitteral and a sister of Mrs. Kate Tubbs of Maquoketa. Below we quote the obituary notice from the Savanna Times: "Ida Grace Zitteral, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Zitteral was born in Jackson County, Iowa, October 10, 1861. She resided on the homestead until her marriage with John Hammerstein on September 24, 1878. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Hammerstein moved to Maquoketa where they made their home until 1888, at which time they came to Savanna, and have resided here ever since. Mrs. Hammerstein has been in poor health since February 1913, when she was first stricken with heart trouble. Sometime ago she was taken ill with gall stones and about ten days ago she underwent an operation for this complaint. She suffered an attack of heart trouble and passed to eternal rest. Mrs. Hammerstein was a loving, faithful wife and a kind and indulgent mother. She is survived by her husband and four children, Paul, George, William and Margaret (Mrs. Berne Stanley) all of this city. Also her father and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Tubbs and Margaret Daniels of Maquoketa and one brother, William J. Zitterell of Webster City, Iowa. The funeral was held at 7:30 o'clock Monday morning from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Stanley, 713 N. Main Street and the body taken to Maquoketa, Iowa for interment."
