HENRY J. HOFFMAN DIES AT AGE 72 YEARS

ILL SINCE STROKE THAT OCCURED [SIC] IN 1924



    Henry J. Hoffman was born in Fairhaven township, Carroll county, Illinois,

Feb. 22nd, 1857 and fell asleep in Jesus, Dec. 23rd, 1929 at the age of 72

years, 10 months, 1 day.



    He was the oldest out of a family of eight children. His father, Conrad

Hoffman, passed away April 7th 1872, and his mother Kathryn Hoffman on October

22nd 1911.



    In the year 1887 he was united in holy wedlock to Miss Lizzie Altensen and

to this union were born five children, three daughters and two sons, one

daughter, Wilma preceeded her father in death on Feb. 23rd 1906. Those remaining

are Bertha Mary, wife of Fred Schreiner, Chester Henry, Hubert William and

Florence Luella, all of Chadwick, who with the wife and mother remain to mourn

their loss. One sister, Mrs. Will Myers, Bradshaw, Neb., and four brothers, Joe

of Elrod, S. D., Conrad of Mt. Carroll, Ill., Charles of Sterling, Ill., and

Joel of Chadwick, Ill., also remain, one brother and one sister having passed

beyond. Nine grandchildren make up the list of relatives, four of whom have

preceeded him in death, leaving five living.



    At the age of one year Mr. Hoffman was baptized and at the age of 14 was

converted in the Black Oak church in the country and where he became a member

and later united with the Hope Evangelical church of Chadwick, Ill., of which

church he was a member at the time of his death.



    He was a kind and loving neighbor and friend always ready to give a helping

hand to those in need.



    On November 24th 1924 he was stricken with a stroke but feeling strong

enough to get around until two years later when in August 1926 he was again

stricken from which time he has been helpless. On December 10th 1928 he took to

his bed and over a year has remained there until just a few days before his

death he contracted pneumonia which caused his death. He often expressed his

faith in his Lord praying to be taken home. Always patient in his suffering and

only a week ago said to his family, "I want to go home, I am ready."

    Services were held at the home on Thursday, Dec. 26th at 1:30 and at the

Hope Evangelical church. Rev. F. W. Deutsche, the pastor, officiated. Music was

given by the Rahn quartette. Interment was made in the Chadwick cemetery.
