Lotz Sr., 91, Dies at Sons Home Funeral Services Held Tuesday Afternoon From Residence Wife Died in 1900 Four Children Are Still Living Theodore Lotz Sr, one of Chadwick’s oldest and most respected citizens died at the home of his son on December 28. Although he had been confined to his bed for the past months, he was always interested in the happenings in Chadwick. Theodore Lotz was born in Hessen Darmstadt, Germany, December 19, 1838 and died December 28, 1929 at the age of 91 years and 9 days. Mr. Lotz was baptized in infancy and confirmed into the Lutheran church at the age of 1 ˝ in Germany. Before leaving Germany, and undoubtedly in the month of May, 1863, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Ripp. He was about 25 years old when he came to America with his wife, arriving here June 6, 1863. He settled first in Beloit, Wis, and later moved to Lanark where he was employed as a blacksmith. Eight children were born to this union, two of which died in infancy. Two other children, William Lotz and Mrs. Caroline Lotz Strauch, preceded their father in death. The surviving children are Henry, John of Lanark, Dr. Theodore Lotz, and Mrs. Mary Lotz Strauch. Mr. Lotz’ wife preceded her husband in death by nearly 30 years having died January 29, 1900. He leaves in addition to his children, 15 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. Mrs. Lotz was one of the oldest in this community; a pioneer of his day, and the respected friend of everyone who knew him. He was always considerate and faithful; a loyal citizen to his adopted county. For the last twenty years he has made his home with his son, Dr. Theodore Lotz.
