Miss Smith's death was not unexpected, as she had been in an extremely critical condition for two weeks. Mis Smith had conducted a millinery store on the west side of the square for the last twenty-five years. Miss Smith was born in the state of Kansas, moving to Virginia with her parents when only three years old. She attended the public schools of the city and was a member of the Presbyterian church. Her father, one sister, Mrs. Laura L. Leonard and one brother, William, preceded her in death. Miss Smith is survived by the mother, Mrs. Ellen Smith; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Chittick, Springfield, and Mrs. Frank Brown, Roanoke, Ill. and five brothers, George W., Summerville, N.J., Benjamin, Tallula, Ill., and Arthur, Earl and Joseph Smith all of this city. Every member of the immediate family was at the bedside when the end came. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, followed by interment in the Walnut Ridge cemetery. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Max B. Wiles. Mis Smith attracted no little favorable comment by her marked business ability. Her close confinement to her place of business is believed to have weakened her condition. One of her greatest assets was her pleasing personality. http://files.usgwarchives.net/il/cass/obits/dsmith.txt
