Wagner John H. Wagner died at the family home near Monroe Friday, July 6th, 1923 at 3:45 p.m., after a long illness of twenty months. During all these months he bore his suffering with patience and cheerfulness, altho at times his suffering seemed more than he could bear. Everything was done that medical skill and kindness could do but he gradually grew worse until death came to relieve his suffering. His last request was to see all of his children and his wish was granted as they were all at his bedside and he was conscious till the last and talked with them all and knew them every one. He was a kind husband and a loving father and well respected by all who knew him. In early boyhood he united with the German M.E. church. He later united with the new Monore M.E. church soon after it was built. He was a regular attendant as long as his health permitted. The deceased was born at Beardstown, Ill., Aug. 15, 1850 and died July 6th, 1923, aged 72 years, 10 months and 21 days. He was a son of George and Mary (Doerr) Wagner. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Dieterich Feb. 27, 1877. To this union were born thirteen children. Those surviving are his wife and the following children: Mrs. John Witcher, Canton, Ill., Mrs. Harry Daniels, Springfield, Ill., Mrs. M.O. Perine, Chandlerville, Ill., Mrs. Jerry Lynn, Ashland, Ill., Mrs. Chas. O. Custer, Sterling, Ill., Mrs. Ed. Frank of Beardstown, Ill., Elmer Wagner of near Monrot, John Wagner of Beardstown, Edward, Geroge and Florence at home. Two died in infancy. He is survived by fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren, five brothers and four sisters, namely: Theodore, George, Amel, Harry and Edward Wagner; Mrs. Elizabeth Schaad, Mrs. Rosa Hackman, Mrs. Lydia Cole, Mrs. Anna Guinther. Also a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted at his late home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. J.R. Chevurant assisted by Rev. Wm. Beaver.
