The people of this place were startled Sunday afternoon to learn of the sad and sudden death of Mrs. Charles Devlin, which occurred at her late residence on Nonth between State and Washington streets, at 12:45 on that day, Sunday, August 20th. Deceased was in usual condition of health during the early part of Saturday evening and with her mother, Mrs. James Hunt, had visited the picture shows and before going home she ate an ice cream soda. Upon reaching home she ate lunch and almost, immediately became very sick, and she steadily grew worse until her death occurred as above stated. Miss Rosella Hunt was born in East St. Louis, Ill., June 20th, 1884, but during the greater part of her life has resided in Beardstown. She was a graduate of the Beardstown High school, having completed the course with the class of 1902. She took special instructions in music at Jacksonville and other places and many times has entertained the people of Beardstown at different public gatherings with voice and piano selections. During the month of June, just four years ago, she was united in marriage with Charles Devlin, now proprietor of the cigar manufactory on State street. For some time they have resided on Ninth between Wahington and Lafayette streets and it was there her death occurred. Besides the husband and the mother, her death is mourned by seven brothers and three sisters.
