Two of the weddings came as complete surprises, each being in the form of an elopment. On June 29 Miss Myrtle Virgin 18 years old, daughter of Mrs. Nettie Virgin, who resides six miles southeast of this city, came home from DesMoines, Ia., where she is employed as a secretary in the Iowa State Children's home, to spend her vacation. On July 10 she went to Peoria where she was married to Carl Adkins of Beardstown. The young couple will make their home in Beardstown, where Mr. Adkins is remuneratively employed. Mrs. Adkins was graduated from the Virginia High School at the age of 15 and last September completed a course at Brown's Business College in Jacksonville. Word has been received here of the marriage last Saturday afternoon of Miss Martha Looker, 18 years old, daughter of Mrs. W.H. Looker of this city, to Russell Haglock of Beardstown. The marriage was performed in Rushville. The newlyweds will make their home for the present with Mrs. Haglock's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Looker of Virginia. Miss Marion DeFrates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph DeFrates, of Virginia, was married in Kansas City, Mo., on July 5, to Carl Aldrich of Less's Summit, Mo. Mr. Aldrich is foreman over a hard road gang. The bride is a graduate of the Virginia High school. They will make their home in Lee's Summit.
