One perhaps who has not been so prominent as many others, but still one for whom there are no other words but those of respect. Mr. John DALLENBACH was born in Berne, Switzerland, in the year 1820. His father and mother were both natives of that place. His mother remained there until her death. The father however came to this country and settled near Pittsburg, Pa., about the year 1826. There were four children in the family, of which the subject of our sketch was the youngest. He emigrated to this country in May 1837. He stopped at Pittsburg where he worked with his father upon a farm. He soon left, however, and visited various places in Ohio, stopping for some time at Dayton, and Cincinnati, but always returning to Pittsburg. On the 17th of February, 1846, he married Miss Rosa ACKLER, who was a native of Berne, Switzerland, but a resident of Pittsburg at the time of her marriage. In 1847 he removed to Ripley, Brown county, Ohio, where he engaged in the butchering business. He remained there eight years, and in 1856 he removed to Urbana in this county, where he remained for a short time, and in 1857 came to Champaign, where he has since resided. He has been blessed with eight children, five boys and three girls. Two of the girls are married, the others are still under the parental roof. He has been happily blessed in his children, who give every evidence that they will be a prop and a stay to him in his declining years. He has followed butchering the greater portion of his life, from which he has made a comfortable competency, and only retired from the business about one year ago, passing the business over to his two sons, John and William. In politics Mr. Dallenbach is a Republican. He is an honored member of the Masonic order, having joined that organization at Ripley, Ohio, twenty-five years ago. As intimated above, few men in Champaign stand higher than the subject of our sketch. His reputation for honesty and fair dealing is as wide as the circle of his acquaintance, and all who know him will readily attest to his sterling worth as a man and fellow-citizen. http://files.usgwarchives.net/il/champaign/bios/a-d/jdalnbch.txt
