A. CONKEY Mr. CONKEY was born in Franklin county, Massachusetts, December 6th, 1820, and was the son of Alexander and Lucy (McCULLOCH) CONKEY. His mother's father had been a soldier in the revolutionary war. In 1830, his father moved to Edgar county, Illinois. When eighteen, Mr. Conkey began the study of medicine, with Dr. Joseph Hopkins, in the neighborhood of Paris. He attended lectures at the Louisville Medical College the winter of 1840-41. He began practice at Eugene, Indiana. November, 1843, he settled at Homer, in this county. November 19th, 1843, he married Elizabeth WILSON, of Edgar county. She died in 1846, and he was married the second time, May 31st, 1849, to Sarah B. SADLER, a native of Virginia. In 1850, he sold his practice, at Homer, to Dr. Solomon Dill, and moved to a farm west of Homer. He was first a Whig, in politics, and became a Republican, on the formation of that party.
