Biography of Henry TREVETT, Champaign County, Illinois

HENRY TREVETT - The present May of Champaign City, and a prominent 
and enterprising merchant, was born in Cook county, Illinois, and was 
the third child of a family of four, of Oliver and Sarah (HAYWOOD) 
TREVETT.  His father was born in Albany, New York, and was descended 
from a French family.  His mother was a native of England, and was 
born in Clare.  Oliver Trevett participated in the Black Hawk War, 
and his paternal grandfather was a surgeon in the Revolutionary army. 
The boyhood of young Trevett was passed in his native county, where 
he enjoyed the advantages afforded by excellent public schools.  When 
about fourteen years of age, his father removed to Champaign county, 
his mother having died while he was yet an infant.  Shortly after his 
arrival he engaged to work in a hardware store as clerk.  For the 
succeeding ten years he diligently devoted himself to the interests 
of his employers, at the expiration of which time, he engaged in the 
same line of business for himself, and which he still continues to 
follow.  He married November 4th, 1869, Miss Mary S. MARCY, a 
daughter of John S. and Sophia (VOSE) MARCY, who were natives of 
Vermont and New Hampshire, respectively.  Mrs. Trevett was born in 
the former state.  They have had three children, Kate, Harry MARCY, 
and Mary.  Mr. Trevett has filled several public positions in his 
city.  He was first elected to fill an unexpired term as alderman, 
and subsequently elected for a full term.  He was then elected Mayor 
of the city, a position he now fills most acceptably to the citizens. 
He is a man of integrity and perseverance.  He possesses good 
business qualifications, which he assiduously devotes to advancing 
his interests.  He has the well-merited confidence and esteem of the 
entire community.
