Ortonville, MN, Sidney, IL Funeral services for Cleopha Block age 84, of Ortonville, MN, were held 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at First English Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Dalh and Pastor John Vagts officiating. Special music was provided by Ruth Schneck, organist and Marlys Selvig, vocalist. Those in attendance joined together in the singing of hymns "Just As I Am" and "Rock of Ages". Serving as casket bearers were Donald Buse, Christopher Torgerson, Tom Weber, Phillip Kellen, Jeffery Redepenning and Scott Roelke. Honorary casket bearers were Alan, Dwight and Kyle Schweer, Bradley Kaus, Daniel, Joel, John and David Schultz, Daniel and Dick Trebil. Spring internment will be in Mound Cemetery, Ortonville. A public visitation and prayer service was held Wednesday at the Larson Funeral Home, Ortonville. Cleopha Magdaline Block was born in April 25, 1905 in Sidney, Illinois to parents Francis and Mary (Bamberger) Block. in 1910 she moved with her family to Lakeshore Fruit Farm in Ortonville, MN. Cleopha completed her high school education at Ortonville Public High School and then attended college at Champaign, IL. She taught school several years in Northern Minnesota and Nebraska. Cleopha then returned to Ortonville where she took care of her parents until 1965. She then went to Massachusetts where she worked for the Christian Science Monitor until 1978 when poor eyesight forced her retirement. After the death of her sister she came back to Ortonville to be near relatives at her former home. Cleopha passed away Jan. 8, at Ortonville Municipal Hospital., Ortonville. Survivors include sister-in-law Frieda Block of Ortonville; nieces and nephews, Verna Schultz, Carol Schweer, Aleda Trebil, Elaine Cole, Evelyn Fulps and Francis Lee Block.
