"Another Citizen gone to his reward- Darwin Rutenber departed this world for a better one beyond, at 9'o'clock, Wednesday evening, August 8th. Deceased had been a sufferer with flus for the past two weeks and it was this dread disease, coupled with a long standing kidney trouble caused his death. He was a pioneer settler here working at his trade, that of a wagon maker, till the date of his last illness. In his death Sadorus loses one of her most favored citizens, the Sunday school its superintendent and the M.E. Church an old respected member, the knights of honor an able officer in their fraternity, the wife a loving husband and the children a kind and generous father. A wife and five children mourn his loss, four sons and one daughter. Menzo, the oldest, is a trusted employee of the Pullman Palace Car Co., with a position as conductor. Henry, the second son, is a jeweler in this city and resides with his parents. Ernest is a well-to-do farmer living near Wellington, Kansas. Funeral services were held in the M.E. Church by Rev. Sims, after which the body was followed to its last restin place in Craw cemetery: by a large concourse of sorrowing friends who extended their heartfelt sympathy to the family in their sad bereavement".
