The Melrose Church of God was started by earnest solicitation of several families in the neighborhood in 1876. A Sunday School was organized and was held in the school. The Church was organized in 1877, and the first chruch building was built in 1878. Some of the early church members were G. W. Thompson, Bertha Snavely, Sarah E. The building has been kept in good repair and is still being used for services. The Melrose Church of God is affiliated with the Churches of God General Conference with headquarters in Findlay, Ohio.
