Our president, Cy Harlan, and the secretary, Wm C. Hippard, deserve a great deal of praise for the nice manner in which they arranged the program and carried it out. They have the thanks of everybody and especially the old settlers. In the morning at about 9 o'clock, all assembled in the courtroom. After some appropriate music by the band, J.W. Graham made a neat address of welcome and then called for talks from the old settlers. Many responded, among them Father Rupp of Martinsville, who is 93 years old and has lived in the county 49 years. He was followed by William Connelly, Fred Ennis, Moses Dawson, Dr. J.D. Mitchell, Aunt Betsy Montgomery and Grandmother Foster of York. They talked of the times when they were young, and many pathetic and amusing anecdotes were related. These talks were kept up until 11:30, when all adjourned for dinner in the opera house. After dinner all returned to the courtroom. There was more music by the band and then we had a treat. A trio, composed of Abe Petinger, Harrison Hurst and Fred Ennis, sang from the old, old songbooks. To the young folks present, it was only something strange and amusing. But to the old settlers it brought back to memory the days of their youth, when they attended church and heard these very same songs. S.S. Whitehead made a speech, after which there was more music by the band and trio, and more talks by old settlers. Mr Graham made a short address and then business was transacted. A vote of thanks was given the president and secretary, and the people in general for the nice time they had, and then the following officers were elected: President, Warden Griffith; Secretary, Sol Handy.
