Died, at her residence, in this city, at 6 o’clock a.m., Sunday, December 28, 1879, Mrs. Jane Bartlett, aged 79 years, 7 months and 23 days. Mrs. Bartlett was born in Scott county, Kentucky, in the year 1800, and when she was only four or five years old her parents removed to Warren county, Ohio, and resided there until the year 1817, when they removed to Clark county, Illinois, and settled on Walnut Prairie, the year before Illinois was admitted into the Union as a State, thus making her one of the first settlers of the county. She was married to John Bartlett, her deceased husband, on Walnut Prairie, in the year 1823, and raised a family of eight children—three boys and five girls— all of whom are living but one, and all have families. She and her family were the first citizens of Marshall, having settled here on the 5th day of April, 1836, soon after the town was located by her brother, the late Col. William B. Archer. Among the children left are Archer and Warren Bartlett, Mrs. R. L. Dulaney, Mrs. John Scholfield, Mrs. Edwin Harlan, Mrs. Adeline Eversol and Mrs. Hannah Green.
