J. Bartlett Friday night, ten minutes before eleven o'clock, at the residence of Archer Bartlett, her husbands father, Mrs. Fred Bartlett quietly breathed her last. Mollie Stephens was born at Dublin, Indiana Oct 16, 1865. Soon after her birth her parents moved to Clark County and at the age of nine months she was left motherless. Her grandmother took the little girl and reared her to womanhood. As the girl developed into the woman she showed a cheerful, vivacious disposition which made her a great favorite and soon she had a wide circle of friends. When her uncle, John Brooke, was elected county clerk and moved to Marshall, Mollie made her home with him, and upon the death of his wife, took charge of his household, caring for his children with all the assiduity of a mother. Dec 23, 1891, she became the wife of Fred J. Bartlett, one of Marshall's most promising young lawyers. Her mother died at the early age of twenty-five, and Millie had often expressed the belief that her own life would be short and after her engagement to Fred expressed a desire for an early marriage saying she wished to die all his own. Fred tried to laugh her out of her forebodings, but though she put them aside for his happiness occasional remarks dropped showed that the premonition was ever with her. About three years since she took a severe cold from which she never fully recovered. The last of April she was taken suddenly worse. Medical skill did its utmost, loving hearts cheered her, loving hands ministered to her wants, and she made a brave battle for life. But all was of no avail. The spoiler had marked her for his own, and despite of all he took her. The funeral was held at the house, Sunday, at 8 p.m. It was Mollie's request that Rev. Burchitt, of Casey, who officiated at her marriage, should preach her funeral sermon. He acceded to her request and assisted by Rev. Sherill took charge of the services. Mrs. Bartlett had been loving, gentile and dutiful in all the relations of life and a large circle of friends deeply sympathize with her young husband in his bereavement. The remains were laid to rest in the Marshall Cemetery, a large concourse of people following and paying the last sad tributes and respects.
