Obituary of Fred Allen Bird

October 1963

Dies in Charleston

Fred A. Bird, 83, of Oakland, died in the Charleston Community
Hospital, Saturday at 9 p.m. where he had been taken four days
before from the Hilltop Nursing Home.

He was born at Kansas, Ill., on June 3, 1880.  He was married to
Dolly Bousman on October 24, 1901.  She died in 1946.  Two years
later he was married to Edith Stark.  They operated a restaurant
in Oakland for eight years.  Mr. Bird had resided in Westfield
until his second marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Edith; a step-daughter, Mrs. Lenora
Wendel of Oakland; three step-children; two great step-children,
two half-brothers, Harlan Kindsel of Tucson, Arizona and Lawrence
Kindel of Mattoon; two half-sisters, Mrs. Fern Randolph of
Decatur, and Mrs. Maude Smith of Charleston.

Funeral rites were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the
Taber Funeral Home, Oakland, with the Rev. Robert Lee,
officiating.  Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery, south of
Westfield.
