Joseph G. Bennett was a man of fine character and lived an honorable and upright life and had for many years been one of the leading citizens of Westfield township, one whose counsel and advice was often in demand, and a man who had made a host of friends. Mr. Bennett was united in marriage to Miss Ann Wilhoit on April 6, 1871. No children came to bless this union, but two boys, Arlie Wilhoit and Bryan Young, were reared from childhood by Mr. and Mrs. Bennett. The deceased united with the Primitive Baptist church of the Rich Woods Oct. 26, 1885, and was an earnest and faithful worker in the church until the end. He had been a farmer all his life, was a man of jovial nature, always cheerful and was ready at all time to give assistance and aid to his fellow man, and was honored and revered by all who knew him. Mr. Bennett was industrious and frugal and was considered one of the prosperous farmers of the community. For a number of years past he had been a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Westfield. He had been in failing health ofr several years, but up to a short time ago was able to be about and look after business affairs, his final illness being of only ten days duration. He is survived by his wife and numerous relatives. Funeral services were held from the Rich Woods church on Sunday, January 25, conducted by Rev. W. E. Gill, of Cloverdale, Ind., and interment was in the adjoining church. Thanks and appreciation to all the friends and neighbors for their kindness, assistance and sympathy in the sickness and death of my beloved companion, and also to all who assisted in the funeral services and to the donors of the beautiful flowers.
