He came to Illinois with his family in March 1877 and settled in Darwin township on a farm where he continued to reside until about three years ago when failing health compelled him to retire. He returned to Ohio but was not satisfied and returned to Marshall only last September. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Lylley Nov. 3, 1854, and was thus permitted to complete a half century of happy wedded life only last November. Four children were born of this union and three have already preceded the father to the other shore. The only remaining child is Edwin who will care for the mother in her lonely widowhood. Mr. Clapper enlisted in the service of his country in Feb. 1865 in Company H, 191 Regiment Ohio Vol. Infantry and served eight months. While living in Ohio two years ago last June, Mr. Clapper had a severe sick spell and decided to give his heart to God. As soon as he was able to attend, he united with the Dunkard church and ever after enjoyed peace with God. He has been a sufferer for twenty six years but was patient. He said he was ready to go and trusted in his Saviour to save him. He leaves his wife and son and many other relatives and friends to mourn his death. Funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church Monday Jan. 30 by Rev. W. M. Hailey at 1 o'clock after which burial was made in Marshall cemetery. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/il/clark/obits/c/eclapper.txt File size: 2 Kb
