All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarch.org/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarch.org/il/ilfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Cindy McCachern mccachern@worldnet.att.net Obituary of Uriah Cooper  Wednesday, 18 August 1920, Clark County (IL) Democrat   Uriah Cooper, son of Marmaduke and Nancy Cooper was born in Virginia, June 25th 1835 and died at his home in Melrose township August 9, 1920, aged 85 years, 1 month and 14 days.  His father emigrated to Clark county when Uriah was only 6 years old, landing at Old York on a flat boat in the latter part of the 1885 and soon thereafter settled in Melrose township. Mr. Cooper was married to Mary H. Lamb January 4, 1855, who departed this life October 25th 1889.  To this union were born ten children, only two of whom are living, Iradell Cooper and Mrs. Libbie Lawrence, both of Oblong, Ill.  The deceased children are Alfred, Perry, Florence, McClelland, Mrs. Charles Green, Mrs. Fred Ware, Fred and Ora Cooper. He was again married on February 25, 1892 to Drucilla Jeffers.  To this union were born two children, Mrs. Herman Bartlett and Patience who lived at home with him at the time of his death.  He is also survived by five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, also two brothers, David and John Cooper and one half brother, S. D. Cooper. He was a member of the United Brethren church at Plymouth and when the organization there was discontinued, he moved his membership to Potter's Hall where he remained a faithful member until death.  Mr. Cooper endured the inconveniences and privations that were incident to early pioneer life and by industry and frugality had accumulated a competency for old age, having lived on the farm where he died, for 65 years.  He was a kind father, agreeable neighbor, and a good citizen and will be missed by all in the community where he lived.
